Camp Journey began in 2005 when a group of individuals from Brainerd Noon Rotary Club partnered with Confidence Learning Center in hopes of filling a need in our community. They set out with the intent to companion children and teens as they learned how to grieve after someone they loved had died. Camp Journey was an opportunity to provide these kids fun camp activities, learned coping skills and the likeness of other kids who had experienced something similar.
In 2023, Brighter Days acquired Camp Journey to provide a platform of their statewide services to camp participants (now including all family members) such as grief counseling, grief support groups, financial assistance, and other services.
Camp Journey will now be included as one of our Camp Erin offerings.
*Registration will remain open from July 8th, 2024 to August 1st, 2024, or until camp is filled. Priority will be given to families new to Camp Journey or Camp Erin.
At Camp Journey, the focus is on illuminating the importance of being connected to a community that understands. Our camp team of professional counselors and highly trained volunteers work hard to combine all the fun and excitement of camp with time to connect with others who have experienced the death of a significant person.
Camp Journey provides an inclusive environment for children and families where they can find emotional support, learn grief and coping skills, and participate in a wide variety of camp activities. Activities include crafts, indoor and outdoor games, fishing, animal sanctuary, campfire, archery & grief specific activities.
During this special camp experience, campers develop genuine connections and lasting friendships while learning how to balance joy and sorrow.
Brighter Days offers Camp Journey – Brainerd at no charge to the participants. We depend on generous donations from family foundations, corporations, and individual donors. We are always looking for volunteers and would love to hear from you if you would like to join us!
